For My Blog's 8th Birthday

There is no greater feeling in this world than when you feel proud of yourself. 

In that glorious moment you feel as if the world can really be your oyster, that all of your dreams are possible. If only we could remember how strong, smart, and capable we feel in that moment and let it wash over us on the days positivity seems out of reach. 

Today I am proud. 

I am reveling in the fact that eight years ago today, I started this very blog. I began a journey that is not nearly over and that has taken me down a road that led to the person I am now. 

I am proud that even when it got difficult, I stuck with it. Even when I hadn’t written in weeks or even months, I still returned to it. 

I am proud that no matter how far my from my really big dreams I still seem, I am still going in the right direction: forward. 

I am proud that I am discovering new passions such as cooking which will allow me to use my skills as a writer to create a cookbook; my latest passion project. 

I am proud that I always find the words to express the love, fear, and a million other emotions I have, to those who need to hear it most. 


I am proud that where there once was a blank page, there are now words. 

I am proud that I have had the courage to create a space for myself in this world where I am the expert.

I am proud that: “For Starters” (http://bit.ly/xgicQh) the blog that started it all was six hundred and thirty-six posts ago. 

I am proud that I am living the life I imagine and following my bliss simultaneously. 

So, yes today I am overflowing with pride as you can see. 

I am proud to be in the skin I am, doing what I do, and changing the world one blog post at a time.

You know that sound a fingernail makes when it scratches against a chalkboard?  You know that feeling the sound of that action gives you? For Find Out Friday - Why is One Foot More Ticklish Than the Other?

As I sit here typing I can’t seem to stop thinking about my nails. Mainly that they REALLY need to get done. They are starting to chip and become unruly. As soon I as think about making an appointment my mind immediately returns to this question: “which of my feet will be ticklish this time?” Because I am a girl that needs her fingernails and toenails to match, I always get a pedicure whenever I get my nails done. And while this should be an activity I enjoy, it often feels like a chore, despite my going only once every three to four weeks. For a Doughnut Worthy of Food Network Glory: “Dun-Well Doughnuts”

All because I wanted a Boston creme doughnut. That is how this blog truly began. It was Father’s Day weekend and although I was initially thinking of myself, I knew my father wouldn’t mind having a sweet treat for dessert. Brooklyn is synonymous with great pizza, bread, and of course bagels. But it also has many great bakeries producing some of the most delicious doughnuts you have ever tasted. Just to name a few, there is: Doughnut Plant , Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop and Dough .   On the day of my craving, I did what any of us do countless times a day - I opened Google. When I Googled “best Boston creme doughnuts in Brooklyn” Dun-Well Doughnuts appeared high on that list. Intrigued I researched it further and learned that it had won the Canadian  Food Network’s contest called “Donut Showdown” in 2013.
